Special Achievement Recognition
The Board also recognizes that there are indeed student-athletes in the league who are worthy of recognition for their off-rink achievements and contributions. That being said, in addition to recognizing all-star athletes, the IHF will also be recognizing selected all-star student-athletes at this event for their Special Achievements.

Coaches and managers were invited to submit nominations of student-athletes from their club who may excel in their academic record, civic or community accomplishments, or even special contributions to their team or to our sport. Nominations were received and then reviewed by the Board.

The Board is proud to recognize honorees of its Special Achievers Awards at this inaugural event:

   µ  Yen Le of Loara

µ  Jordan Wallace of Fountain Valley

   µ  Kevin Brooks of Northwood

   µ  Raffi Tchekmedyian of Edison

µ  Jake Konoske of El Modena

µ  Chasen Davis of El Modena

   µ  Ryan Tyson of Northwood

   µ  Brock Booth of Northwood

            µ  Dylan DeCarlo of Santiago

µ  Brett Olinger of Newport Harbor

µ  Mary Quayle of Mater Dei

   µ  Matt Brown of Santiago

   µ  Tyler Hainey of Esperanza

   µ  Joshua Winters of Santiago

Honorees will be recognized in a ceremony hosted by IHF Board president Art Wells. The Special Achiever's ceremony will immediately follow the finalist trophy awards. In addition to being the first ever to receive these awards, the honorees also will share in another first of its kind; recognition of their accomplishments by the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions, the Anaheim Ducks

In an award created by the Ducks' general manager, Brian Burke, honorees will further be recognized for their special accomplishments and contributions off the rink.

The recognition of these special achievers further demonstrates the depth of commitment that the Anaheim Ducks organization has in youth hockey in our community and marks a first for their recognition for scholastic roller hockey and the IHF.

The stories behind these special achievers is pretty amazing. An editing team has been working diligently to bring to the spotlight their many achievements. Our only regret is having too little time to give sufficient accolade to these young people.

Presentation of the awards will by Art Wells. Mr. Burke and the Ducks will be traveling to Dallas for game 6 of the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs.

You won't want to miss this!
