The IHF Board also recognizes that there are indeed student-athletes in the league who are worthy of special recognition for their off-rink achievements such as academic accomplishments and contributions to their team and their community. In addition to recognizing all-star athletes, the IHF is proud to recognize selected all-star student-athletes at this event for their Special Achievements.

Nominees are selected by coaches and managers who were invited to submit nominations of student-athletes from their club who may excel in their academic record, civic or community accomplishments, or even special contributions to their team or to our sport. Nominations are received and then reviewed by the Board and submitted to the sponsor of these awards, the NHL Anaheim Ducks - the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions!

In an award first created in 2008 by then Ducks' general manager, Brian Burke, honorees will again be recognized for their special accomplishments and contributions off the rink. Each year's award is a unique keepsake reflective of the organization's dedication to quality and remains a surprise until the awards night and presentation to the honorees.

The recognition of these special achievers further demonstrates the depth of commitment that the Anaheim Ducks organization has to youth hockey in our community, and this Special Achievement Award further acknowledges their recognition and support of interscholastic inline hockey.

The Board is proud to recognize recipients of the 2009 Anaheim Ducks' Special Achievers Awards:

µ  O’Neil Van Horn of Aliso Niguel

   µ  Robert Oliver of Marina

   µ  Kevin Brooks of Northwood

   µ  Bryan Bixler of Santiago

   µ  Jeff Scanlan of Northwood

   µ  Ryan Espinosa of Santiago

   µ  Brock Booth of Northwood

   µ  Joshua Winters of Santiago

   µ  Casey Epps of Northwood

µ  Nick Jezulin of Edison HS

µ  Adam Winter of Laguna Hills HS

Honorees will be recognized in a ceremony hosted by IHF Board president Jay Piz. The Special Achiever's ceremony will immediately follow the finalist trophy awards.

The stories behind these special achievers is pretty amazing. Our only regret is having too little time to give sufficient accolade to these young people.

You won't want to miss this!
