IHF 2010-11 SEASON UPDATES...
Newsworthy updates to help keep you posted about the League and our southland roller hockey community.

The new IHF High School Roller Hockey Season is near!
(03-Sep-10) Please Note:
The  annual IHF Coach and Manager Meeting will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12th from 4-6:00 PM at the corporate HQ and posh training facility at the Yard House Restaurant building near to the Irvine Spectrum Center [7700 Irvine Center Drive, Suite 300, Irvine, CA 92618].  All clubs and/or teams participating in the upcoming season must have one representative attend this meeting.  In addition to the business matters concerning the many changes implemented for this season, the meeting will also feature addresses from strategic partners, sponsors and event promoters as well as a keynote address by Mr. Jeffrey David of the Anaheim Ducks who will speak about CIF sanctioning for high school roller hockey as a varsity sport.  Attendees also may win Door Prizes donated by our sponsors.  You don't want to miss this meeting!  Details and discussions about this meeting are available online at our

Download a copy of the PlannerThe Schedule Planner will be updated and available at the Coach and Manager's meeting.

New to the League is the Combo Division
Playing with classmates for your school colors and mascot is an important part of the roller hockey experience growing up, and many Southland schools are represented in the IHF High School League every year since the ‘90’s. School clubs field teams at Varsity or one of three Junior Varsity levels. But not every school has enough players to field a team leaving some student-athletes behind, including both home and private schoolers.  This division gives student-athletes who want to play high school roller hockey but have no team to join due to reasons of educational choices, geography, or who are lacking in number, to form a team with others like them and compete as a team in this new division.  Six (6) Players, including a Goalie, and a Coach are needed to form a team in this division and many have already begun. More information is available by contacting our rink partners
: The 949 Roller Hockey Center and The Rinks at both Corona Inline and Huntington Beach Inline, or get the forms and flyers by visiting our Combo Division page.

Communicating with our Hockey Community
The IHF web site is still being updated for the new season and forms you may find online here are likely out of date. Please be patient while we catch up.

The IHF also now maintains the Facebook page "
IHF High School Roller Hockey" where it posts updates about the League, events and even pictures. Please join and visit us there to stay current.

The IHF Board of Directors has a new email address that reaches them for requests:
  ihf.directors@gmail.com
The email address to reach Jay Piz, the Board president remains:  ihfhockey@gmail.com

More information to be updated soon. Meanwhile, please look to your Inbox!

19-Oct-10  IHF Team Evaluations & Division Alignment Notice. The evaluation and division alignment process this season relies heavily on the participation of the IHF Coach corps. Each coach has been requested to provide their observations of their team(s) and their opponents throughout the pre-season. Now, Coaches are invited to join with the Board in conducting the Division Alignments for the Regular Season on Thursday, Oct. 28th (view the notice).

28-Oct-10 IHF Board convenes for Team Evaluations and Division Realignments. Thanks to the cooperation by the majority of coaches throughout the League and their participation in submitting evaluations of their teams and their opponents, the Board called on their evaluations, observations and preseason statistics to reset teams into the skill divisions they will compete within throughout the 2010-11 Regular Season and into the 2011 playoffs. The Divisions and Teams are updated on the Teams & Rosters page or you can download the new report. These alignments will be used to develop the (pending) 2010-11 Regular Season Schedule. [

30-Oct-10 IHF releases 2010-11 Regular Season Schedule for Week #1 (download).  View the Week #1 schedule for all divisions and note that the schedule also includes the newest division updates made over the last 2 days. Notable changes include: Combo division teams have been ranked into two tiers; Minor changes to JVB; and Significant changes have been made to the JVA and Varsity divisions which now both include 8-Teams. While JVA will compete in the standard format, each of the eight varsity teams will meet once over the initial seven games and then compete in tiered matches to establish seeding order for a two tier format in the playoffs. Division changes have been updated on the Teams and Rosters page. Reminder to all teams: Player's School ID's Are Required for Checking Before Game #1. Be sure to have your teams check in early before their game!

11 and 12-Nov-10: In response to unforeseen issues with competitive disparities, the IHF Board announced a Realignment Plan affecting teams in the Varsity, JVA, JVB and Combo divisions. This plan combines the various divisions into appropriate skill levels as shown in the Teams and Rosters table. Please know that game statistics for the Combo division teams are and will be maintained separately from those in other divisions. Also, the Combo division teams have their own and separate path to the playoffs. This realignment will commence with games beginning Monday, Nov. 15th (see revised Week #3 schedule released on 12-Nov).

Reminder:  There are no IHF games scheduled during the week of Nov. 22nd in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Games will begin again on Monday, Nov. 29th and the schedule will be updated in advance.

08-Feb-11 IHF Releases 2011 Playoff Schedule - download the schedule.  The Playoff Schedule also includes the Division Seeds. Please note that there are differences between the stats shown on The 949 site and the Seed Order. Some teams in Varsity and JV divisions played games vs. Combo division teams and these games are not counted in the Division standings. Also, some teams played in more than one division during the regular season (e.g. Varsity and JVA) and some may have missing games attributed to forfeits, etc. as a result, Seeds are based on win percentage instead of the traditional point system.

As some clubs are already beginning their pre-season camps, scheduling tryouts and making preparations for the upcoming IHF 2009-10 interscholastic roller hockey season, it's time for the League to begin taking a roll call to assist with our planning and for communicating to those club contacts who will be participating. That being said, you are requested to please reply to this email if you and your High School Roller Hockey Club will be participating with the 30 high school clubs from last season and, if so, with an estimate of the number of teams and for which division of each (Varsity, JVA, JVB, or JVC). Also helpful would be to include an updated list of Club Contacts and roles for each to better serve your Club.

The Board of Directors are in the final planning stages for the launch of the upcoming season. Details with our rink operator partners: The 949 and The Rinks' Corona Inline and Huntington Beach Inline, are in progress to also finalize pre-season start dates, home rink, division playing days, fee structures, insurance, etc. The Board is also addressing issues including, but limited to, rules changes, certifications, new forms, scoring and statistics solutions, and more. The Board is hopeful to present all preseason details at the annual season kick-off meeting for Coaches and Managers tentatively scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, September 13th. The Board will send a separate announcement confirming the kick-off meeting to those who subscribe.

In the meanwhile, if you have questions or concerns, would like to address the Board at an upcoming meeting, or have other business to discuss, please send a separate email to: IHFhockey@gmail.com
