IHF Game Supervisors...                                                        updated Jan. 2008

PREFACE

In its supervisory capacity for IHF roller hockey games, experienced IHF volunteers are present to watch Varsity and Junior Varsity (JVA, JVB and JVC) games at all rink locations. While rulings made on the rink are the responsibility of the referees, the IHF supervises games for adherence to IHF rules by players and spectators alike. Following each game, a report of the game is submitted by the volunteer to the IHF Board and maintained on file. The function of game supervision is critical to maintaining the high quality of play in the IHF League.

In accordance to IHF RULES, SECTION I, Para. 2. Schools with two or more teams must nominate a parent to serve on the IHF Board. Participation on the Board is subject to Board approval. Schools with two or more teams that do not nominate a board member to help supervise games may be subject to penalties including the possibility of being excluded from the playoffs.

The IHF has recently appended this rule to allow for schools (teams) to appoint a qualified individual(s) who may elect to become a Game Supervisor (a.k.a. Game Watcher) in lieu of serving on the IHF Board. However, it should also be noted that all members of the IHF Board also actively serve in the capacity of game supervisor.

On November 27 2007, the IHF Board of Directors instituted a new Game Supervisor Schedule effective with all IHF games as of December 3, 2007.  Instead of making it (volunteering for game supervision of games each week) an option, which has been unsuccessful thus far, we have decided the best way to handle this responsibility is to divide the League, the divisions, and the schedules up on an equitable basis. Then assign schools to specific days and weeks so everyone will be accounted for and, if they serve, will provide the proper share of responsibility and volunteerism to qualify their school and team for the playoffs, if they are eligible! (read the announcement).

On January 5 2008, the IHF Board of Directors once again updated the Game Supervisor program, guidelines, reporting form and schedule (read the announcement) for the remainder of the 2008 season.  This update addresses the Point System associated with Game Supervision and Playoff Eligibility, Communications and Scheduling, a Standardized Report format, and a Board-designated chairperson for supervising the game Supervisor program.

Included with the new guidelines is a new game Report form (download the form) for use by all Supervisors effective immediately – please delete all prior forms! IHF Game Supervisors should prepare and submit a game report for each game supervised.  Supervisors should use this report form only and complete all details included in the form.  This form may be submitted in Word.doc format as an attachment or copied into the body of an email.  Game report(s) are to be emailed to the IHF Board of Directors within 24 hours of game time.

Game Supervisor schedules will be emailed with weekly updates in 2008.
